Health Sciences
This area of study combines science and health services into a number of career fields that are committed to improving the healthcare industry and delivering quality care to patients, no matter the population. You can work to improve individual and public health in a number of different health sciences career fields. In addition, the Health Information Technology curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to process, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, manage, and report health information.

Associate Degree Nursing
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program provides knowledge, skills, and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in a dynamic environment, and to meet individual needs which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
Graduates of the program who successfully pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) may enter employment as a registered nurse. The ADN program at Brunswick Community College, located in Bolivia, NC is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
Medical Assisting
The Medical Assisting curriculum prepares multi-skilled health care professionals to perform clinical, laboratory, and administrative procedures.
Course work includes instruction in assisting with clinical examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration, confidentially/HIPAA training and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care; administratively instruction includes training in scheduling appointments, coding, and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, computer operations, and basic administrative office procedures.
Emergency Medical Science
The Emergency Medical Science program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to provide advanced emergency medical care as a paramedic for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system and prepares graduates to enter the workforce.
Graduates of this program may be eligible to take state and/or national certification examinations. Employment opportunities include emergency medical services, fire departments, rescue agencies, hospital specialty areas, industry, educational and government agencies.
Health Information Technology
The Health Information Technology (HIT) curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to process, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, manage, and report health information.
Students will supervise departmental functions; classify, code, and index diagnoses and procedures; coordinate information for cost control, quality management, statistics, marketing, and planning; monitor governmental and non- governmental standards; facilitate research; and design system controls to monitor patient information security.
The HIT Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) to award Applied Associate Degrees in Health Information Technology.

Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing (PN) program prepares students with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults. Students participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.
Graduates of the program who successfully pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) may enter employment as a Licesnsed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/ long term/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.
